Our Pursuit of Happiness

I, being the ineloquent person tt i am, am having difficulty putting down my thoughts in words.

Humans are just transient existences. Our temporary presence may have an impact on others, but if they too are just transient, does that not mean that eventually, it wouldn't matter what we have done in this life?

It makes me wonder why some people are so driven, yet others are so hedonistic. In the end, is it all but different means by which an individual pursuits his own happiness and beliefs? Does it matter what you achieve if it doesn't make you happy? You can't bring your achievements to your grave, it is the experience, the process, the joy you feel then that makes it worthwhile is it not? But sometimes I wonder if the people so engrossed in their work are happy. Why, why is our society, or maybe even most people in the world so obsessed with working. Is anyone happy working?

But then again, I guess you could say that it wouldn't matter if you were happy when you were alive, because after you move on, it wouldn't matter anyway. Perhaps people work so they can let others benefit. Like parents earning money so they can bring happiness to their children. Maybe some people feel they have a greater purpose in life, but I personally wonder what the point the purpose is. Is it to prevent them from having thoughts like these? Faith it is called. Or perhaps, delusion.

Ok, I know I am going all over the place and its going nowhere. Clearly my mind is not very organized, its really messed up. That being said, after all the words here, I am probably just going to crawl back into my daily routine of live and forget I even thought about all this. Does this prove my point that it doesn't matter what we feel?

So is there a reason to seek happiness? Even if you are happy now, what does it do for you in the future? Can you seek refuge in happier memories when you are down? Should you risk your happiness for the potential of greater happiness, or should you be content?

Perhaps, there is no need to think so much. Everything would come to a naught in the end anyway.
